Presentation of the portrait of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held at the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations

On December 19, 2024, at the initiative of the Embassy, ​​a presentation of the portrait of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, painted by a Vietnamese artist, was held at the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO).

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Shovgi Mehdizada emphasized the historical mission of national leaders Heydar Aliyev and Ho Chi Minh in the 20th century, noting that their contributions were significant not only for their own countries and peoples but also for the whole wider region.

Ambassador said that the Embassy has held various events and projects dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Leader and the 41st anniversary of his official visit to Vietnam as the head of a high-level delegation during the Soviet era, and noted the special attention Heydar Aliyev had paid to relations with Vietnam.

Ambassador noted that 2024 marks the 65th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Azerbaijan, emphasizing its historic significance and highlighting that the friendship established by our leaders is strengthening successfully today.

Ambassador informed the participants about the documentary film "Vietnam Visit", prepared by İTV (Azerbaijani Public Television) at the initiative of the Embassy, as well as a book dedicated to “Azerbaijan-Vietnam” relations, based on archival documents on Heydar Aliyev's visit to Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh's visit to Baku. He also mentioned that work on scientific articles and other projects has already begun.

Chairman of the Vietnam-Azerbaijan Friendship Association, Dang The Vinh, spoke about the prominent statesman Heydar Aliyev and his important role in Azerbaijan-Vietnam relations, including the historical ties between the two countries. He provided information about the role of the leaders of both countries in the establishment of historical friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Vietnam, noting that the National Leader was a great friend of the Vietnamese people and always attached special importance to relations with Vietnam. Dang The Vinh emphasized that Heydar Aliyev's official visit to Vietnam in 1983 as the head of the Soviet Union delegation played an important role in the development of relations between the two countries. He also highlighted the exceptional role of the National Leader in the education of thousands of Vietnamese students in Azerbaijan through state programs and in establishing the oil industry in Vietnam.

Following the speeches, the documentary film “Vietnam Visit”, dedicated to the National Leader's activities related to Vietnam, was demonstrated in Vietnamese language. Moreover, a presentation consisting of archival documents on President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Azerbaijan was displayed.

Then, the portrait of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev was presented.

Participants had the opportunity to view a photo exhibition highlighting the National Leader’s historic visit to Vietnam.
