Elchin Amirbayov paid a working visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam
On August 23, 2024, Elchin Amirbayov, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on special assignments, paid a working visit to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. During the visit, E. Amirbayov held meetings with Vice President of Vietnam, Vo Thi Anh Xuan, and other officials. The meetings focused on the current state of bilateral relations between the two countries and explored the prospects for expanding and developing cooperation in various fields, including political, economic, and humanitarian areas, as well as within the ASEAN context.
At the meetings, E.Amirbayov noted that the foundation of friendly relations between the two nations was laid with the visit of Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh to Baku in 1959 and National Leader Heydar Aliyev's historic first visit to Vietnam in 1983. He highlighted that there are currently good opportunities for the development of relations between the two countries in fields such as energy, trade, education, and culture.
Noting that useful cooperation was established between the New Azerbaijan Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam, and the Agreement on Cooperation between the Parties was signed, he emphasized that inter-party cooperation contributes to the development of relations between the countries overall. At the same time, he underlined the importance of inter-parliamentary relations in expanding ties between the two nations and peoples and stressed the need to further develop these relations.
The other side expressed its strong commitment to the Azerbaijani-Vietnamese friendship, which is based on historical traditions and mutual support, to further develop the current political dialogue through mutual high-level visits, to make joint efforts to deepen cooperation in energy, economy, inter-parliamentary relations, education, culture and other fields. The importance of enhancing cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the UN and other international organizations was also highlighted.
At the meetings, E.Amirbayov provided detailed information on the post-conflict processes in the region, the current situation and prospects of the peace process with Armenia, and the ongoing restoration, construction, and demining efforts on the liberated lands. He also briefed the other side on the working trip of the delegation from the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, which took place at the invitation of the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC).
The importance of the 29th Session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which Azerbaijan is hosting this year, was also underlined. It was emphasized that COP29 presents favorable opportunities for effective cooperation between Azerbaijan and Vietnam in this field. The Vietnamese side was invited to participate actively in the event with a high-level delegation.
